The Ocean Career Pathways Exploration Day is aimed at H2O attendees aged 18-30. The event aims to introduce participants to traditional and non-traditional career pathways in the ocean and marine science industries through interactive sessions and discussions. Participants will have the opportunity to learn about networking at a conference, hear from industry experts, foster connections with their peers, and engage in a national roundtable discussion focused on career success, challenges, innovation and opportunities in ocean-related fields and the Sustainable Blue Economy.

Join us for the inaugural kick off of Ocean Career Pathways Exploration Day! Targeted at student attendees, we will explore the opportunities in the ocean sector, build your networking skills, and connect with youth across Canada in an interactive session. We start the day off with a general introduction before diving into the rest of the day’s sessions.

Student Networking 101: Making Waves at H2O

This session plans to equip student attendees with essential networking skills to get the most out of their time at H2O. Navigate pitching oneself effectively, learn key elements of networking, and gain confidence on how to put your best foot forward. Perfect for those who are attending their first conference or want to brush up on their communication skills before diving into full conference mode.

Waves of Innovation: A Youth-Driven Sustainable Blue Economy

Presenter: Tara Mascarenhas, Director of Programs, Blue Futures Pathways, SOI Foundation

In partnership with Ocean Wise in Vancouver and Qikiqtaaluk Corporation in Iqaluit the SOI Foundation will be hosting a hybrid event designed to showcase the passion of diverse, youth and early-career changemakers in building an innovative Sustainable Blue Economy in Canada. We will be joined by international graphic recorder Carlotta Cataldi who will be capturing a visual representation of the dialogue and providing us with a graphic recording that will be shared widely after the event.
